Jean Marie Sheehan, 96, residing at Garvey Manor, formerly of Altoona, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday April 22, 2025, at UPMC Altoona. She was born on August 13, 1928, in Altoona, daughter of the late John L. and Mary Ellen (Hand) Murphy. Surviving are her six children, Louise (William) Markland, James Bettwy, Robert Bettwy, John (Becky) Bettwy, Ruthann (Kenneth) Louder, and Joseph (Sandy) Bettwy. Jean is also survived by six stepchildren, Kathleen (Larry) Butterini, Theodore (Kathy) Sheehan, Kristina Andrews, Cynthia (Louis) Cessna, Betsy (John) Penrose and Anna Marucci; Numerous Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Jean was preceded in death by her husband Ronald J. Sheehan; seven siblings, Anthony Murphy, Thomas Murphy, Marjorie Boorman, Mary Catherine Weyandt, James Murphy, Eugene Patrick Murphy, and Gerald Murphy making her the last surviving member of her siblings. She was also preceded in death by two daughters in laws, Elizabeth and Donna Bettwy, by a stepson in law, Dr. Terry Andrews, and by her step grandson Kevin Sheehan. Jean was a member of the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament church where she was a member of both the Altar and Rosary Societies. Jean worked at Widmann’s Drug store, as a hostess at the Penn Alto Hotel from 1968 until 1976 and retired in 1990 as a teacher’s aide at Appalachia Intermediate Unit 8. She enjoyed her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, music, flowers, and her faith. At Jean’s request, there will not be a public viewing. Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral Mass to be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 26, 2025, at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Altoona, with Monsignor Stanley B. Carson Celebrant. Committal Rites to follow at Calvary Cemetery. Family request donations to St. Vincent Depaul Society, PO Box 231, Altoona, PA 16603 or to the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament Church One Cathedral Square Altoona, PA. 16601.
